Israeli pianist Tom Zalmanov (b. 1999) performs extensively both as a soloist and as a chamber musician.
He is a First Prize winner of all major national piano competitions in Israel, including AICF’s Aviv Competitions 2023.
He is a recipient of AICF Excellence grants since 2006, along with grants from Tzfunot Tarbut (Secrets of Culture) and Dalia Maroz Foundation of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. In the UK, he became a Drake Calleja Trust and ABRSM scholar.
Zalmanov recently played his Wigmore Hall recital debut. Other recent appearances in the UK include concerts at St. Georges, Bristol and Steinway Hall London. In the US, he gave a recital on the prestigious Myra Hess Memorial Series at the Chicago Cultural Center, broadcast live on WFMT radio, and appeared in New York City's Steinway Hall.
He toured Thailand and Vietnam as well as The Netherlands and Denmark by invitation of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In Israel, he regularly performs live recitals broadcast on Kan Kol Hamuzika radio station, and has appeared on stages such as the Jerusalem Theater, The Israel Philharmonic Hall (Heichal Hatarbut), Elma Hall, the Tel Aviv Museum and more.
Zalmanov performed as a soloist with the Jerusalem Symphony (with Yi-An Xu, Uri Segal, Frederic Chaslin and Steven Sloane), Israel Symphony (Doron Solomon), Haifa Symphony (Benjamin Yosupov), Beer Sheva Sinfonietta (Rani Calderon), Tbilisi Symphony (Vakhtang Kakhidze), Bayer Philharmoniker Leverkusen (Bar Avni), BMSM Symphony (Eyal Ein-Habar) and more.
At the Jerusalem Music Centre, of which he is a graduate, he worked with Emanuel Ax, Angela Hewitt, Joseph Kalichstein, Stephen Kovacevich, Garrick Ohlsson, Gilbert Kalish and Jonathan Biss.
In other context, he has also worked with Mitsuko Uchida, Richard Goode, Sir Andras Schiff, Christoph Eschenbach, Imogen Cooper and Robert MacDonald.
An especially long-standing relationship binds him to Murray Perahia, whom he regularly plays for.
An avid chamber musician, Zalmanov has actively participated in prestigious festivals such as Ravinia Steans Music institute (2018-2019), Four Seasons (2020) and Marlboro Music Festival (2023-2024).
He played with artists amongst which are Miriam Fried, Joseph Lin, Colin Carr, Alice Neary, Kim Kashkashian, Nobuko Imai and Daniel Philips.
In chamber coaching, Tom was instructed by Menachem Pressler, Robert Levin and Leon Fleisher, among many others.
He has also been a participant of Oxford Piano Festival (2022).
Having special affection and curiosity for poetry and song, Zalmanov is often working with singers. He is active in the worlds of Art Song and Opera, and collaborated with tenor Mark Padmore and sopranos Chen Reiss and Lucy Fitz Gibbon.
In his early years he has studied with Mrs. Lea Agmon (JAMD) and Mrs. Adela Umansky.
He obtained his Bachelor’s and Masters’ degrees Summa Cum Laude at the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music, Tel Aviv University, piano class of Prof. Emanuel Krasovsky.
The Royal Academy of Music (London) has granted him a full scholarship for his Advanced Diploma studies, working with Prof. Ian Fountain.
